Description
A vacancy exists for a Ward Clerk based at Life Beacon Bay Hospital, reporting to the Unit Manager, Annatjie Hendriks. The successful candidate will contribute towards the optimal functioning of the nursing team through effective: interdepartmental liaising, communication and administrative support to the nursing team. In addition, the successful candidate will be responsible for overall control of stock and billing in the Unit
Critical Outputs
Ensure optimal, professional service levels whilst understanding and striving to achieve targets.
Fulfill the duties of being the point of contact for all non-medical queries patients and their families may have.
Process incoming and outgoing calls and ensure messages are effectively and promptly communicated
Transcribe verbal orders and complete request forms for tests and referrals to other departments when requested by medical professionals.
To ensure the speedy and effective execution of non-nursing activities.
Attend meetings and in-service training as scheduled.
Ensuring a safe environment in all areas of the unit through staying up to date with safety standards and protocols.
Elimination of medical legal risks through the correct identification and filing of patient’s documentation.
Maintenance of a positive appearance and behaviour, within and outside of the hospital
Live up to the Quality principles.
Professional secrecy and discretion during contact with customers and colleagues.
Ensuring of effective communication between customers and colleagues.
Assist Unit Manager with staff planning, scheduling and monthly reports
Ensure cost-efficiency regarding staff planning, stationery and documentation orders as required by your position
Perform ad-hoc administrative duties as delegated
Meticulous billing and stock control
Daily count of high value items
Daily ordering of ethical and surgical stock
Monthly stocktaking
Monitoring expiry dates of all items and managing as per protocol
Informing the Unit Manager of any stock issues and shortages
Ensuring that stock is available at all times
Requirements
Grade 12
Sound knowledge of stock control in a hospital environment
Understanding of the private healthcare industry, its challenges and role players would be an advantage.
Computer proficiency
