Introduction

 

Main purpose of the job

  • The Vice-Chancellor and Principal is the Chief Executive Officer of the university and reports to the University Council.
  • Implement the policies of the University Council and to ensure that the University’s resources are used in ways that most effectively advance the approved mission and strategic plan of the University.
  • To provide strategic direction, effective administration and operational management, financial sustainability, and support to the Central University of Technology, Free State (CUT) on academic and support services matters.
  • To provide direction, support and assistance to Council on all governance issues and the business needs of the institution

Requirements

Minimum Qualification/ Knowledge and/or Experience

 

  • A Doctoral-level degree
  • At least fifteen years of executive / senior managerial experience in a higher education environment
  • Academic teaching experience with evidence of excellence in research and teaching
  • Accredited scholarly publications
  • Academic credibility as recognised by peers and the business environment
  • Extensive knowledge in areas of leadership / strategy / management and research

 

Desired Qualification, Knowledge and/or Experience

  • In addition to a Doctorate, a qualification in management, or equivalent.
  • An NRF-rating of at least a “C”
  • Member of a relevant professional body
