YFM is a "Youth" radio station in Johannesburg, South Africa. Established in 1997, the station is formatted to mostly play urban music genres such as Kwaito, Hip Hop, and R&B along with a minority of its airtime being dedicated to talk shows.


Reporting to the Managing Director.


The purpose of this role is to provide strategic and operational management / implementation and drive innovation of the technical broadcast capabilities for the station.

1.Managing departmental goals and objectives in accordance with overall business and eMedia group strategy.

2.Responsible for overall quality of sound.

3.Ensure that YFM is on air at all times.

4.Ensuring the software and firmware for broadcast machines and equipment is current.

5.Ensure that all broadcast hardware is maintained to broadcast standards.

6.Ensuring that the studio environment is maintained and controlled for optimum use.

7.Compile needs analysis for CAPEX

8.Manage all IT related matters through group IT.

9.Manage supplier/vendor relationships

10.Transfering broadcast engineering skills to juniors and YAcademy interns .




Education: A qualification in sound engineering, broadcast technical management, broadcast engineering etc.

Experience: A minimum of 5 years experience in a radio broadcast technical environment . At least 3 years of management experience.

Language: Business English
