MAIN PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:

 

To lead the execution of the unit’s plan and delivery of the highest quality audio-visual coontent for all SABC News platforms.

 

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

 

Develop and execute operational plans for the unit.

Ensure that utilisation and deployment of resources is accordance with the execution of the public mandate and the prescripts of the editorial policies.

Assign camera resources and ensure editorial and technical quality of content meets required standards.

Monitor diaries and provide camera resources for newsgathering.

Manage and oversee the assets i.e. cameras, kits, and fleet.

Ensure that all equipment is always ready and in standby mode for prompt deployment

Identify areas of development and recommend appropriate solutions.

Review and report on the achievement of business units’ objectives. (Weekly, monthly and quarterly).

Execute administrative procedures necessary for the smooth running of the department.

Overall management of resources and ensure adherence to prescribed financial management principles.

Compile, manage and oversee the utilization of the unit budget effectively.

Introduce and implement corrective measures to ensure financial discipline and accountability.

Consult with divisional finance to determine budget utilisation.

Ensure that video journalists adhere to editorial policies and journalistic standards, as well as public broadcasting regulatory and legislative provisions.

Develop Standard Operating Procedures and monitor the implementation thereof.

Give input and address internal and external queries and complaints regarding editorial governance standards

Contract and manage the SABC’s Performance Management System with the team in accordance with the organizational policy and procedures.

Allocate responsibilities and scheduling of team.

 

REQUIREMENTS:

 

National Diploma / Bachelor’s Degree in Video Editing, Journalism or Communications or equivalent qualification.

8 years’ proven experience in video journalism practice, 3 of which must be on supervisory role.

Understanding of regulations and legislation impacting broadcasting.

Advanced knowledge and understanding of television new and current affairs production processes.

Extensive knowledge of the relevant systems and broadcasting operations.

Creative thinking and ability to innovate.

Excellent news judgement and editorial acumen.

Knowledge of latest newsgathering and broadcasting technology.
