Duration: One-Year Contract


The South African Medical Research Council, Gender and Health Research Unit (GHRU) requires suitably qualified and experienced Social Science Research Technologist to coordinate our SRHR intervention study.




Assisting in developing study protocols

Developing study SOPs

Monitoring and evaluating implementation of SOPs and project protocols

Enrolling participants

Leading intervention implementation

Overseeing and conducting transcription and translation of interviews

Supporting the qualitative analysis of interviews and group discussions

Participating in Conference Calls and write meeting summaries

Arranging investigator meetings and colliding meeting minutes

Maintaining stakeholder relationships and writing stakeholder engagement reports

Facilitating external Interactions for study updates and quality of data

Overseeing administrative procedures of the SRHR study project

Overseeing Data management tasks including data QC and data transfer

Updating of study logs and operational plan

Checking and overseeing filing of source documentation

Supporting supply chain acquisition

Supervising study staff (technologists/research assistants/driver/nurse)

Checking team’s weekly tasks and task completions, intervene when challenges arise

Ensuring accuracy and precision of work and that tasks are completed within time-lines set

Core Requirements:


3 years degree or accredited certificate in social sciences, humanities, psychology, management, health science or similar field.

3-4 years’ experience in research, social sciences or related environment

1-3 years’ experience using qualitative methods for data collection

1 -2 years’ experience in:

o developing and/or facilitating online interventions or studies

o developing SOPs and study documentation tools

o financial management

o using qualitative data analysis software (NVIVO, Atlas-ti)



Valid unendorsed code 8 Drivers license

Existing publications

Experience in conference presentation

Good organizational and time management skills

Ability to work both independently and in a multidisciplinary team

Ability to maintain confidentiality and adhere to ethical principles in research

Ability to multitask and work under pressure
