Duration: 18 Month Contract


The SAMRC Office of Malaria Research (MOMR) aims to support the malaria elimination agenda as set out in the National Department of Health’s Malaria Elimination Strategy. The research goals of the MOMR are aligned with the national elimination strategy. The MOMR seeks to appoint an experienced Senior Research Technician with a matriculation in biology. The Position will be based in: Mpumalanga (1 post)




Job specific responsibilities include, but not limited to the following:


Work with the provincial Malaria control programme

Conduct Fieldwork and project implementation

Conduct Data collection and Quality control

Ability to work with insects

Conduct work within local Communities

Working in adverse weather environments (high temperatures and high humidity)

Work in an insectary / laboratory

Breeding and maintaining a mosquito colony

Perform administrative project related activities (Filing, Asset and stock control, logistics)

Report Writing

Core Requirements:


Grade 12/Matric with biology

2 - 3 years’ experience with Data collection in a scientific environment / research

Experience working with living organisms

Experience working in a field environment (rural areas/ communities)

Knowledge of data collection practice and adherence to protocols and SOP’s

Administrative experience

Ability to work under extreme weather conditions (high temperature and high humidity)

Code 08 Driver License

Fluent in English and/or Isizulu, Sesotho, Venda

Residing in the following province: Mpumalanga



Experience working in a malaria area.

Experience working with insects and/or other invertebrates.

3 years’ experience in a field setting with experience collecting insects or other living organisms
