The Department of Integrated Communication has a permanent position for Senior Lecturer at the Soshanguve North campus.

 

Critical Performance Areas

 

Key performance areas/Core functions:

 

  • Must be a strategic and innovative thinker, with excellent conceptualization and analytical skills.
  • Excellent communication skills: must be able to interact with others on all levels, including supervisors, colleagues and students.
  • Advanced computer skills and proficiency.

  • Must be able to work independently and be a self-starter.
  • Excellent understanding of research and the research process.
  • Must be able to conceptualise viable research projects and act as supervisor to postgraduate students.
  • Knowledge of research funding systems is a recommendation.
  • Knowledge of the Department of Public Relations and Business Communication and the course curriculum they offer.

 

Minimum Requirements

 

Academic qualifications:

 

  • NQF Level 10 – minimum of 180
  • A doctorate in communication, public relations, strategic communication or marketing qualification.

 

Experience:

 

  • 5 years managing and teaching experience, research and industrial experience in the communication and public relations field.
  • Advanced knowledge in the following areas of study: communication management, public relations (including aspects such as reputation management) and communication science (including integrated marketing communication).

 

  • A proven track record of research, publications, as well as Masters and Doctoral student leadership will be required.
  • Experience as editor or reviewer of accredited communication-related publications is a recommendation.
  • Registration with one or more professional bodies in the communication industry is a recommendation (eg. SACOMM, IABC or other public relations professional bodies such as EUPRERA).
  • Presenting research at international conferences, or publishing in the proceedings is a recommendation.
  • At least five years’ teaching, research or industrial experience in the communication field.
  • A proven track record of research, publications, and Masters and Doctorate study leadership is required.
  • Presenting research at international conferences, or publishing in the proceedings, is a recommendation.
  • Experience as editor or reviewer of accredited communication-related publications is a recommendation.

 

  • Registration with professional body (if applicable):

 

  • The South African Communication Association (SACOMM)
  • The International Association of Business Communicators (IABC)
  • Other public relations professional bodies such as EUPRERA (European Public Relations Education and Research Association)
  • Global Business and Technology Association (GBATA)
  • Technical and professional knowledge.
  • Strategic and analytical ability.
  • Communication skills (verbal, non-verbal – including written).
  • Mentoring.
  • Managing work and others.
  • Extensive previous research experience.
  • Knowledge of field, namely communication science and public relations.
