Key Performance Areas include but not limited to:

 Construct and install new or upgrade existing electrical networks including cables, distribution

lines, substations, transformers, distribution and metering panels.

 Repairs and Maintenance: On High Tension (HT) networks (11000 Volt). This would include

cable joints, terminations etc.

 Ensure scheduled planned and predictive maintenance and ensure uninterrupted and optimum

functionality of electrical power supply system.

 Test and maintain electrical networks, electrical protection and metering equipment, standby

generators, building electrical, electrical switchgear and substations.

 Performs specialized tasks such as low and high voltage cable fault finding, termination and

jointing, switchgear and transformer maintenance.

 Inspect transformers and circuit breakers and other electrical components for maintenance,

repair and/or replacement.

 Ensure installations and safety procedures and guidelines are complied with and tasks

executed in accordance with standards associated with quality workmanship.

 Repairs and Maintenance: Electrical wiring to all buildings, Lighting circuits and luminaires.

 Ensure health and safety compliance to OHS Act at all times is adhered to, by Staff and

Contractors working on University networks




Qualification and Experience:

 Qualified Installation Electrician (NQF level 6) plus approximately 3 years post apprenticeship


 Trade Tested Electrical Artisan with a Competency Certificate

 Wireman’s License

 GMR2 Registered in Electrical Engineering

 Between 5 - 10 Years’ experience in running a facility of similar complexity – as a 3 Phase

Electrical Installation Electrician including the following areas:

o Electrical systems and distribution networks

o Light and heavy current voltage systems

o Maintaining power sub-stations

o Fault diagnosis, maintenance and repair of general electrical equipment

o Installation, maintenance and repair of general lighting equipment

o Specific experience in Generator installations

 Previous experience in safety and working with the regulations as laid down by OHS Act.

 ORHVS Switching Regulations three (3) phase electrical installation electrician practical

experience in the industry

 A Code 8 Drivers Licence

 Experience in Renewable energy field will be an added advantage

 At least one year supervision experience or be in possession of a supervision certificate.

 Good understanding of the OHS Act and other industry applicable legislations
