A vacancy exists for a Registered Nurse, based in Section B - Cardiothoracic Surgical Ward at Life Flora Hospital, reporting to Unit Manager, Vicky Olusi. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing holistic patient care and to collaborative relationships with internal and external stakeholders in line with Company & Hospital strategic objectives.


Critical Outputs

Optimizing quality patient care by:


Rendering optimal nursing care

Continued communication with the patient and family with regards to the patient’s condition

Administering medication within the legal and ethical framework

Ensuring daily quality management systems are conducted according to unit specifications

Advocate for the patient by motivating acuity to the case managers and notify the doctor of any limitations.

Ensuring daily care rounds and investigation of complaints are conducted.

Providing accurate, appropriate and adequate information to patients and family members during hospitalization.

Ensuring accurate documentation and participation in documentation audits.

Creating a therapeutic environment


Maintain a safe practice environment according to applicable infection prevention and quality management policies and procedures.

Promoting a healthy work environment through good communication, appropriate staffing, leadership and teaching.

Function within the boundaries of the infection prevention policies and procedures.

Monitoring and implementing preventative measures to minimize risk.

Maintain cleanliness and hygiene standards of the unit to ensure adherence to infection control and safety policies and procedures.

Comply with ISO requirements in order to facilitate infection control.

Conducting effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

Identifying doctor’s preferences and stakeholders needs and implement it in the working environment.

Ensuring effective functioning of equipment on a daily basis, and report defaults to unit manager or clinical engineer.

Effective cost management for staff, equipment and stock by:


Managing all stock used according to unit specific policies and procedures

Control and manage staff hours in accordance with the company policy

Minimizing unnecessary stock wastage and facilitating maintenance of equipment.

Provide people management


Collaboration with the multidisciplinary team including internal and external customers.

Provide training and development to ensure potential growth of peers.

Execution of doctors request and patient rounds

Embrace teamwork in the multi-disciplinary team.

Ensure teamwork according to the scope of practice in order to utilize the appropriate skills mix

Assisting multi-disciplinary team in the execution of their duties.




Relevant Degree or Diploma in Nursing

Nursing experience in a Cardiothoracic Surgical Ward is essential

Current registration with the relevant professional or regulatory body

Ability to work shifts according to the operational requirements of the hospital

Understanding of the private healthcare industry, its challenges and role players would be an advantage
