Job Description

The incumbent will report to the respective Landscape Managers and will be responsible for the Operational and Technical aspects with regards to managing Natural Resource Management (NRM) and Integrated Catchment Management (ICM) projects within the Southern Landscape

 

 

 

Core Responsibilities:

 

  1. Protected Area Management, related to NRM and ICM projects

 

Conducting annual density verifications

Maintaining partnerships with funders

Assisting Conservation Managers with input to Alien Clearing Strategies at Reserve Level

Assisting Conservation Managers with input to Integrated Catchment Strategies at Reserve Level.

 

 

Project Management

Annual Planning for Operations

Monthly Plan versus Actual reporting

Participate in Monthly Partner meetings

Preparation of Site Specifications

Conduct site briefing sessions

Ensure quality work in all projects

Ensure project administration is completed as per set standard and timeframes.

Manage spatial and non-spatial data related to projects

 

 

Integrated Catchment Management (Fire Management)

Assist Conservation Manager with Standby Duties

Responding to and managing teams at fires

Assist Conservation Manager with updating firebreak registers

Assist Conservation Manager with seasonal planning and fire audits

 

 

Socio-economic upliftment (EPWP) & Stakeholder Engagement

Provide leadership and management role with Project Contractors

Ensure implementation of Socio-Economic programme targets

Ensure regular engagement with stakeholders and neighbors in relation to Project Implementation.

 

 

Corporate Governance and Compliance (Finance, Admin, HR and OHS)

Ensure planning and implementation of projects in line with approved budgets

Ensure project administration is completed as per standards set

Management of project team staff, including monthly and annual planning, discipline management, attendance & performance management

Facilitate and coordinate training interventions for project team

Ensure OHS management with Contractors and Project staff

 

 

Minimum Requirements:

 

National Diploma in Conservation

Minimum of 5 years work experience in Conservation, of which at least 2 years should be in a supervisory or management level

Work experience dealing with Projects and Contractor teams

Knowledge and working experience of the Working for Water Programme

Conversant with Occupational Health and Safety legislation

Skills in basic mapping and orientation

Excellent report writing and computer skills (GIS,MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint)

A valid Code B driver’s license

Ability to work under pressure

Physical fitness to perform field duties and inspections

Willingness to work irregular hours, after hours and perform standby duties

Bilingualism in at least 2 of the 3 Official Languages of the Western Cape

No Criminal record

Good project planning and organizing skills

Ability to thrive in a fast paced environment managing multiple projects and tight deadlines

Ability to function independently and within a team

Knowledge of ArcView GIS/ QGIS is advantageous

Firefighting knowledge and experience
