The Desmond Tutu HIV Centre (DTHC), in the Faculty of Health Sciences at UCT, is committed to the pursuit of excellence

in research, treatment, training and prevention of HIV and related infections in Southern Africa.

This full-time permanent position will be based at Emavundleni, Crossroads, Cape Town.

As the Pharmacy Manager, your primary role in this position is to manage the pharmacy according to South African

Pharmacy Council (SAPC), Medicines Control Council (MCC), National Institutes of Health (NIH), Good Clinical and Good

Pharmacy Practice Guidelines (GCP and GPP).

The Pharmacy Manager will be responsible for:

  1. a) Pharmacy Regulatory Compliance including
  2. b) Family Planning and Sexually Transmitted Infection medication management
  3. c) Investigational Product (IP) Management
  4. d) Record Management
  5. e) Staff supervision


  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Pharmacy with 5 years’ experience working as a Pharmacist
  • 3 years as a clinical trials Responsible Pharmacist
  • Registration with the South African Pharmacy Council (SAPC) as a Pharmacist
  • Excellent Communication Skills (verbal and written)
  • Excellent planning and organizational skills
  • An ability to develop and foster relationships, and build partnerships with external organizations and communities
  • Computer Literacy (Microsoft Office)
  • Strong decision-making and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to use initiative and facilitate change

The following will be advantageous:

  • Good Clinical Practice (GCP) Certificate
  • Human Subjects Protection Certificate
  • Professional indemnity insurance


  • Develop, implement and maintain Pharmacy Standard Operating Procedures and Establishment Plans according to

international regulatory standards as specified by multiple research agencies

  • Maintain IP accountability records in accordance with the standards required by the SAPC, MCC, ICH-GCP and IPM
  • Dispense medication as per pharmacy regulations
  • Dispose of medication as per pharmacy regulations


The annual cost of employment, including benefits is between R638 396 and R751 052.
