Description
A vacancy has risen for Nurse Manager General units at Life The Glynnwood Hospital, reporting to the Senior Nurse Manager. The successful candidate will be responsible for driving and implementing the nursing function within the specialized nursing units in line with hospital and company strategic objectives of growth, quality and people.
Critical Outputs
Effective operational management of clinical outcomes
Ensure optimal functioning of nursing operations by identifying and managing clinical care risks with Unit Managers, developing and implementing nursing care strategy and regular progress reviews with multi-disciplinary team including driving compliance to LHC clinical standards
Drive compliance and improvement of LHC & nursing quality metrics and quality accreditation systems to ensure reduction of risks and as safe patient environment and meeting the nursing sensitive indicator scorecard targets
Lead, drive and participate in various LHC & Nursing quality initiatives and BOP’s
Benchmarking and ensuring continuous compliance and improvement to quality Improvement systems
Ensure compliance Infection prevention and control measures
Ensuring implementation and compliance to nursing quality improvement projects and initiatives
Leading and driving nursing projects across cross-functional teams to align and implement the nursing strategy.
Effective financial management
Provide input into the budget process to ensure appropriate budget allocation to individual units and the hospital as a whole
Plan, prepare and monitor financial performance daily. Manage, together with relevant stakeholders, the labour hours spend in line with budget, patient requirements and actual activities.
Assist in maintaining accurate financial information in respect of agency hours and costs
Managing (review, analyze, monitor and resolve) nursing costs, labor hours’ norms and skills mix
Meeting internal DSO nursing targets for nursing units
Ensuring compliance to Ward and theatre E Billing targets
Managing cost of sales through driving product conversions to improve and manage cost savings in the nursing units.
Work closely with PM to drive product conversion to meet business strategy
Effective people management
Participate actively in Hospital management committee meetings.
Recruit, retain, motivate and develop staff according to LHC people policies and practices.
Demonstrating visible and purposeful leadership in respect of LHC values, operating model and strategy
Actively sponsoring LHC initiatives and projects with influence
Providing direction and inspiring positive work behavior in hospital
Effective building of relationships with internal/external stakeholders
Ensure productive working relationships with key internal and external stakeholders by participating in various forums, cross-functional activities and by identifying networking opportunities.
Ensuring productive working relationships with key external stakeholders (i.e. Doctors, suppliers, DoH, agencies, unions etc.) by identifying networking opportunities and actively engaging in forums and meetings where necessary.
Effective marketing
Market the professional image of Nursing and the Hospital within the community, participate actively in marketing initiatives and promote nursing as a career.
Drive formal nurse training and CPD to address critical shortage and competence.
Increasing nursing student numbers through participating actively in marketing initiatives to promote nursing as a career. Driving formal nurse training and CPD within own environment
Participating actively in various community events to promote the hospital
Governance and risk management
Ensure optimal management of departmental governance to achieve sound business ethics, risk management and control with appropriate transparencies and controls
Requirements
Grade 12 National Senior Certificate
Degree / Diploma in Nursing
Post-graduate qualification in Management and Education will be advantageous.
Current registration with South African Nursing Council
At least 5 years relevant clinical experience and knowledge to the critical outputs
Proven leadership and management experience within healthcare (ideally private healthcare)
Basic understanding of labour legislation.
Understanding of business principles and a commercial orientation
