The department of Marketing, Retail Business and Sport Management, Vaal University

of Technology, through the New Generation of Academics Programme (nGAP) is

seeking to recruit individuals with demonstrated academic ability and have a passion

to pursue an academic career in Retail Business Management. The nGAP is an

initiative of the Department of Higher Education and Training.

Key Performance Areas include but not limited to:

 Teaching, facilitation and assessment in the field of Retail Business management;

 Contributing to online course design, maintaining quality learner guides, subject files,

developing and maintaining teaching portfolios of evidence that adhere to high quality


 Contributing to curriculum alignment practises that comply with the university’s policies

and SAQA guidelines;

 Initiating and monitoring project-based learning and knowledge in Applied retailing through

industry consultations.

 Attending workshops and capacitation programmes under the auspices of the W&RSETA.

 Completing a Doctoral degree qualification with a Retailing specialisation;

 Contributing to the department’s research outputs through journal article publications and

conference attendance;

 Mentoring junior lecturers, tutors and mentors within the department.

 Fulfilling student and academic administration and reporting duties in line with





Qualification and Experience:

 Possess a Master’s degree (M + 6) with a minimum pass mark of 70%. The

qualification should have specialisation in Retailing, Business Management and/or

Marketing Management (with a Retailing specialisation)

 Possess sound knowledge of the theory and application of Retailing strategy and

Retail store operations

 Willingness to register for a doctoral qualification in Business Management with a

Retailing specialisation and be able to complete it within six years

 A passion for continuous development in the academic profession

 Previous experience in either an academic environment or the retail industry is an

added advantage

 Accreditation/Membership with relevant professional bodies in Retailing would be a


 High technical proficiency: Ms Office Suite, Ms Outlook, Ms Teams, Ms Projects &


To be eligible for selection for a nGAP post, applicants must meet the following criteria, in

addition to meeting criteria specified by the university:

 Show traceable interest in becoming an academic;

 Be a South African citizen;

 Be 40 years or younger;

 show evidence of eligibility to undertake postgraduate study at doctoral level

or post-doctoral level;

 be willing to commit to placement at the appointing university for the full

duration of the nGAP programme.

NB: Shortlisted candidates will be required to make a 12 to 15-minutes PowerPoint

presentation on a given topic as part of the interview
