Main purpose of the position:


To develop, edit and support the production of Digital News multimedia content as well as compile related, long-term projects and features in order to increase content engagement and contribute to user/audience growth.


Key Accountabilities:


Conceptualise, brainstorm and produce multimedia content for Digital News platforms

Compile special reports and features for and related sub sites

Research stories and potential interviewees through various news mediums

Create various forms of multimedia news and data stories and features; including infographics, digital news cards, listicles, explainers, animation etc.

Assist production teams with graphic design projects or daily assignments such as modifying images and creating designs for different features

Produce and write original stories from pre to post-production on and off the field i.e. mobile journalism stories in a form of packages, podcasts, voiceovers and various forms of visualisation tools

Assist Multimedia Manager with graphic design, scheduling and operational duties

Provide digital and multimedia support for other SABC platforms

Keep abreast of the latest news, developments, trends and upcoming events

Inform production team on story development

Maintain constructive and effective relationships with all internal and external stakeholders and partners

Ensure adherence to policies set by partners such as Google, YouTube and internal platforms

Communication with other production areas such as Multimedia Editors

Compile analytics reports and assist Multimedia Manager with roster duties

Write and submit weekly/monthly production reports to the Multimedia Manager





National Diploma in journalism or any other relevant tertiary qualification.

5 – 7 years’ experience in journalism, multimedia production or related discipline

Multimedia or mobile journalism, graphic design, video editing and live streaming in the digital news environment will be advantageous

Experience with website content production such as Content Management Systems

Adhere to South Africa’s Constitution; all broadcasting and other legislation; The Press Code, ICASA licence conditions and regulations; the BCCSA Code of Conduct and decisions; SABC Editorial Policies; SABC style-guides

Understanding of current trends in the digital media space

Excellent news sense, editorial judgement and general knowledge.

Excellent command of written and spoken language in which the radio station broadcast.

Excellent understanding of social media and its usefulness as a journalistic tool and opportunity to engage the target audience and promote News and Current Affairs.
