Job Description

 

CapeNature Conservation seek to appoint a dynamic person to assist with ecological data collection, monitoring, infrastructure maintenance, law enforcement and project management at Goukamma Nature Reserve

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

Implement Eco-Matrix and Integrated Catchment Management

 

Assist with ecological data collections and monitoring

Assist with data management and monthly submissions

Assist with invasive alien plant control

Assist with firefighting operations

Assist with environmental education

 

 

Supervisory and Administrative Duties

 

Assist with supervision of the reserve’s FTE team

Implement Annual Plan of operations

Support management in effective management of Protected Area

Do required daily, weekly and monthly administration work

Assist with control and management of assets

 

 

Perform Legal Compliance Quality Assurance and OHS

 

Carry out law enforcement patrols

Assist with search and rescue operations

Implement Occupational Health and Safety policies and guidelines

Undertake Environmental Control Officer duties

 

 

Infrastructure and Equipment

 

Assess and oversee maintenance of infrastructure (e,g, roads, trails and fences)

Maintain vehicles and equipment

Transport of staff/equipment

 

 

Client Care

 

Assist with Tourism activities and standby when required

Provide visitors with information and interpretation

 

 

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

 

Qualifications and Experience

 

Grade 12 with an associated Natural Resource Guardianship (NRG) / Youth Service Programme (YSP) qualification or a National Diploma in Nature conservation

15 nm Skippers ticket and two years proven experience

Must be able to swim.

A valid code B driver’s license (C1 license &PDP is an added advantage)

Computer literacy (MS Word, Excel, QGIS)

Knowledge and experience in ecological monitoring

Fire Fighting experience

 

 

Competencies

 

Willingness to work weekend shifts and irregular hours

Physical ability to perform ranger duties

No criminal record

Strong analytical, strategic and creative problem solving skills

Ability to thrive in a fast paced environment managing multiple projects and tight deadlines

Good project planning and organizing skills

Ability to function independently and within a team

Use of QGIS software

 

 

Recommendation:

 

Possession of a valid Peace Officer’s certificate or EMI certification

Chainsaw & Brushcutter operator certificates

ICS certification
