LABORATORY MANAGER

 

Five Year contract (Renewable)

 

The SAMRC Genomics Centre requires a suitably qualified/experienced Laboratory Manager with relevant skills to manage the SAMRC Genomics Centre laboratory, a high- throughput next-generation sequencing (NGS) facility in Cape Town. The incumbent is to ensure achievement of a cost effective and high-quality service in line with global standards for NGS.

 

Responsibilities:

 

To establish the quality assurance systems according to the relevantly applicable ISO accreditation criteria and be responsible for development of Standard Operating Procedures for the SAMRC Genomics Centre.

To ensure that all Standard Operating Procedures are developed in accordance with Good Laboratory Practices.

To plan and coordinate laboratory workflows for multiple projects.

To train and manage research technologist.

To review and recommend changes to Standard Operating Procedures in order to ensure the laboratory is constantly able to provide a high quality, cost effective and safe service.

Management and oversight of all laboratory data entered onto the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) system operation.

Adequate maintenance schedule for equipment and accreditation standards must be ensured.

Perform various administrative tasks related to the core functions of the facility, including drafting of Standard Operating Procedures and writing reports.

Engage with clients to plan projects with assistance of platform manager

Disseminate QA/QC and sequencing reports to clients

To work with the Chief Administrator, Research Technologist and Scientists for reagent stock control and consumable procurement.

Market and showcase the Laboratory to external stakeholders nationally and internationally

Core Requirements:

 

MSc in Molecular Biology/Genetics

5 years’ experience in Molecular Biology/Genetics laboratory as a Laboratory Manager

5 years staff management experience including management of internal/external partners

2- 3 years’ experience in writing Standard operating procedures (SOP), Laboratory policies and generating reports

2- 3 years’ experience in Laboratory equipment maintenance and calibrations

2- 3 years’ experience with Laboratory Quality Control and Assurance procedures and practices

Experience in SANAS audit requirements and Good Laboratory Practice (GLP)

Experience in working with Laboratory Information Management Systems (Labware or other)

Advanced MS office experience

Able to Present at conferences/ meetings/ workshops/webinars

Advantageous:

 

Registered for a PhD

HPCSA registration

Experience in working in a Molecular Genetics or DNA sequencing laboratory

Experience with a Research Environment/Clinical trial environment
