Laboratory Assistant
12 Month (4 days p/w, 5 hrs. p/d)
The Non-Communicable Diseases Research Unit (NCDRU) is looking for a laboratory assistant to conduct laboratory procedures specific to NCDRU projects, as well as to assist the research nurse in the relevant clinic procedures in the NCDRU research clinic, adhering to general clinic and laboratory SOP’s and research etiquette.
Responsibilities:
Assisting and reporting to the research sister/nurse
Conducting laboratory activities specific to individual project SOPs/research protocols
Clinic preparation for blood sampling
Sample receiving, labelling and documenting
Lab preparation for blood processing, aliquot and storage
Conducting full lab procedures
Data collection/Electronic data entering of samples
Input in SOP development or SOP review in line with quality control
Stock tacking, keeping and requesting.
Maintenance of lab and lab equipment including freezers.
Core Requirements:
Matric + 1-2 years accredited course/certificate
Relevant laboratory experience e.g. centrifuging and preparing bloods for storage [2+ years]
Added Advantages:
Current registration with HPCSA will be highly advantageous
Previous research related laboratory experience in a similar environment
Experience in processing and storage of various biological samples
A degree in biosciences will be an advantage
Minimum of 3 years’ experience in a diagnostic or research laboratory setting
Experience and knowledge operating in accordance with Good Clinical Laboratory Practice (GCLP) or similar environment, will be an advantage
