JUNIOR SCIENTIST (S)
The South African Medical Research Council’s Biomedical Research Innovation Platform requires a suitably qualified and experienced Junior Scientist.
To cover the multifaceted aspects of the post, we require an energetic person with a strong theoretical and practical background in molecular biology.
Play an active role in wastewater-based epidemiology research at the Biomedical Research and Innovation Platform
Perform DNA/RNA extractions from wastewater for quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR) analysis and genomic sequencing of pathogens
Perform administration tasks related to the wastewater project
4-year tertiary qualification (Honours) degree with a genetics/biochemistry background or related sciences with suitable molecular biology training
Post-graduate working experience of molecular techniques (RNA/DNA extraction and qRT-PCR)
Ability to work as a team member
Sound communication and writing skills
A relevant MSc degree
Experience in extraction and quantification of viral RNA from wastewater
Analysis, interpretation, quality assurance and troubleshooting of qRT-PCR results
