Duration: One-Year Contract


The SAMRC’s HIV Prevention Research Unit requires a suitably qualified and experienced Junior Scientist. The Junior Scientist is needed to provide research, data quality and administrative support to the study, including overseeing the enrolment and follow-up of participants, interviewing participants, supervision of the research assistant and data collectors, monitoring of the data collection process, procurement of study supplies and preparation of study reports. The Junior Scientist will also enrol in a Master’s programme to advance their knowledge and skills in research so they can provide support in the analysis and reporting of study data.




Planning data collection including logistics

Documenting progress with data collection

Data entry on data systems including Redcap

Data cleaning

Basic data analysis

Oversee that fieldwork is in accordance with SOPs

Conduct fieldwork, when needed

Tracking participants

Oversee study logistics

Filing of study documents

Ordering study supplies and equipment on procurement system

Keeping records of study assets and supplies (including participants vouchers)

Presentation at internal meetings/journal clubs

Presentation to stakeholders

Co-authoring conference abstracts

Core Requirements:


4-year tertiary qualification in Social Sciences or Health Sciences

3-years research experience in maternal and child health field

2-years’ experience with supervision of data collectors

2-years’ experience data entry and quality control

Study administrative experience



Experience with using Redcap
