Estate Grounds Manager

Claremont

Our client, a private learning institution is seeking to appoint an Estate Manager who will be responsible for overseeing and managing all facilities of the school buildings, resident facilities and sport grounds.  The successful incumbent will have a solid facilities management background and be willing to be hands-on in managing a team responsible for the day-to-day upkeep of the buildings and grounds.

Requirements

  • Grade 12 essential.
  • A technical qualification or facilities management qualification will be advantageous.
  • Minimum of 5 years experience in facilities management role.
  • Solid Health & Safety experience required – a qualification will be advantageous.
  • Solid communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to lead and manage a diverse team.
  • Must be willing to lead by example and get involved with various aspects with the team.
  • Ability to anticipate and identify possible obstacles and implement preventative plans.
  • Must be a pro-active, solutions orientated and performance driven.
  • Must have solid administration and budget management skills.
  • Must be IT Literate.
  • Accommodation available on the premises.
  • Must be on call 24/7 in the event of emergency.
  • Will be responsible for the opening and closing of the school.

Responsibilities

Facilities Management

  • Do daily inspection of the grounds and report maintenance matters to the Maintenance Manager.
  • Maintain irrigation system and check for faults on a regular basis.
  • Manage the cleaning contractors.
  • Manage annual roster of plant fertilisation, top dressing and composting of the grounds
  • Maintain lawns and sports fields.
  • Pest control maintenance.
  • Coordinate and supervise upkeep and maintenance of the swimming pools, astro hockey field, mini astro, outdoor hard netball court and sports centre.
  • Prepare Sports Centre and sporting facilities for practices and matches.
  • Maintain electronic scoreboards.
  • Oversee all aspects of pool maintenance.
  • Manage external service providers and ensure compliance of their service level agreements.

 

Security

  • Supervise and monitor the security service provider and guards.
  • Opening and Closing of School during specific hours.
  • Manage all keys for all facilities and classrooms.
  • Maintain all gates at the various access points to the school.
  • Maintain all alarms and ensure regular testing and servicing.
  • Install and maintain all emergency signage.
  • You will be required to be on stand-by in case of an emergency at night i.e. a security breach.

 

Venue Preparation

  • Responsible for co-ordinating and setup of venues for various school functions throughout the year.
  • Co-ordinate with Audio Visual Technician that all equipment is set-up and in working order for each function.

Staff Management

  • Oversee all staff functions on a daily basis.
  • Motivate, lead and training of staff.
  • Manage disciplinary process when needed.
  • Ensure welfare of staff.
  • Process monthly overtime worked by staff.

 

General

  • Responsible for ensuring safe storage and maintenance of all equipment and tools.
  • Maintain all fire equipment and ensure that regular servicing takes place.
  • Responsible for all school vehicles and usage thereof.
  • Perform and carry out any reasonable request which is within your capabilities.
