A vacancy exists for an Enrolled Nurse Specialist in the Maternity Unit, based at Genesis Maternity Clinic, reporting to Ismay Dipa, Unit Manager. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring the effective delivery of quality patient care.


Critical Outputs

Ensure professional, ethical practice in the unit


Provide nursing care in accordance with legislation that directly and indirectly governs nursing practice

Provide nursing care in accordance with ethical codes that directly and indirectly guide nursing practices

Accept accountability and responsibility for own professional actions

Ensure the provision of competent, clinical nursing care in the unit


Use the scientific process of nursing to initiate and manage comprehensive nursing care plans that will ensure quality nursing care

Performing and completing tasks assigned in order to maximize patient care

Correctly reporting patient movements on discharge or transfer

Ensuring the adequate preparation of patients for surgical and diagnostic procedures

Customer Satisfaction: Enhance patient satisfaction


Utilise available management tools and strategies to enhance patient experience through continuing quality improvement initiatives e.g CARE

Ensuring patient comment cards are completed and reported to the shift leader or unit manager.

Effective relationship management with customers by building and maintaining healthy relationships with internal and external customers and supporting all new staff members with the orientation program

Build professional relationships with the members of the multi-disciplinary team


Cooperate fully with the members of the multi-disciplinary team and independently delivering nursing care

Assist in the management of complaints from members of the multi-disciplinary team

Safe Environment: Assist in maintaining an environment which is both emotionally and physically safe


Utilise available management tools and participate in pro active management strategies to ensure an emotionally and physically safe patient environment e.g. SHEQ and infection control

Ensuring patient hygiene, comfort and safety is measured in accordance with the nursing care plan

Performing, understanding and complying with the company infection control standards in order to adhere to Infection prevention standards and procedures

Business Efficiency: Contribute to business efficiency through cost effective patient care and economic use of all resources


Utilise and adhere to the interdepartmental requirements with regard to stock management and billing

Working flexible hours in order to minimize agency costs and show willingness to assist on day and night shifts

Ensuring correct and proper usage and maintenance of equipment in the unit

Ensuring personal absenteeism is minimised and justified




Qualification as an Enrolled Nurse

Registration with SANC up to date

Grade 12 Certificate (matric)

Ability to work shifts according to the operational requirements of the hospital

Understanding of the private healthcare industry, its challenges and role players would be an advantage

Computer proficiency would be an advantage

Theatre flooring experience/training for obstetric procedures will be an advantage

Relevant experience and technical skill to meet the critical outputs
