About the Job
The Director of Uviwe Child & Youth Services will report directly to the Board and will provide overall strategic direction and management to the organisation. The incumbent must have a strong business acumen to coordinate/integrate the different parts of the organisation, with excellent networking and fundraising capabilities.
Provide visionary leadership, aligned with the organisation’s vision and mission
Develop, implement and continuously adapt sustainability strategies for the organisation
Lead transformation initiatives to ensure the organisation stays connected to children, youth, the community and demonstrate social impact.
Ensure effective management of an annual organisational budget of minimum R4mil
Ensure good governance and NGO compliance, i.e., inclusive of acting as power of attorney, signatory and managing the board/governance structure at Uviwe
Marketing & Fundraising – coordinate the organisation’s fundraising strategy and steering committee to achieve annual fundraising target.
Brand management - ensure strategic networking and establish partnerships to position UVIWE as a trustworthy partner in the NGO sector, and child protection & youth development space.
Demonstrate the organisation’s social impact discernibly, through integrated programmes that supports a holistic development model, meeting best practice for ECD/Teens and Youth.
HR management - provide strategic organisational development and risk management guidance in relation to talent management, staffing & succession planning.
Ensure effective management and coordination of the organisation’s management & support functions, such as HR, Finance, Assets, IT, Document Control and Infrastructure (buildings & transport).
Preferably a tertiary qualification in social science, business management, and/or community development
Must have prior experience in the NGO sector or Community Development space
Strategic, logic and analytical competencies
Ability to effectively manage relationships (internal and external) – on all levels
Exceptional writing & communication skills for internal & external reporting and communication plans
Grant writing and prior fundraising experience (ability to diversify income streams)
Ability to apply wider lenses, i.e., integration, coordination and systems theory application
Effective management of business administration processes
Financial management skills
Computer literacy – intermediary to advance skills level.
Personal traits required for the Director:
Must have a passion for children/youth and community development (heart commitment)
Embrace ABCD principles as a way of “doing” – Asset Based Community Led development practices
Flexible work hours are critical to meet operational requirements
Experience in networking with community-based stakeholders, with relevance to the Northern Areas
Have an appropriate “balance” between a “hunter’s personality – to attract resources/ do fundraising” and a personal commitment (love) to facilitate change for children/youth/community.
Vigour, constant energy (output) and personal resilience
No criminal record, good financial standing.
