2 Year Fixed Term Contract (Half Day post)
The Burden of Disease Research Unit is looking for an experienced, energetic and organized person with a medical degree with experience in review of verbal autopsy and medical records, medical certification and ICD-10 coding of cause of death. They will also be required to manage another project investigating COVID-19 deaths and assist in developing an online training module for certification of COVID-19 related deaths. They will be required to work closely with other members of the research team.
Review and certify cause of death for verbal autopsy and medical records
ICD-10 coding of cause of death using IRIS automated coding
Set up regular management and team meetings for COVID-19 deaths project
Minute meetings and circulate to participants
File and maintain all project documents
Develop a scoring system to assess quality of case management in medical records
Review draft slides and narratives for COVID-19 module for online training of medical certification of cause of death and review final version to ensure accuracy
Contribute to report writing
5 years clinical experience post qualification
Some experience in South African public health service
Competent in the medical certification of cause of death
Understanding of ICD-10 cause of death coding guidelines and experience of IRIS automated coding software.
Experience with verbal autopsy and medical record reviews
Experience with medical certification of cause of death
Experience with IRIS automated coding software for ICD-10 coding of cause of death
Good interpersonal communication, organization, planning and management skills
Ability to work independently and in a team
Integrity and attention to detail
