Description

 

The Division of Emergency Medicine seeks to appoint an Assistant Lecturer to assist with the co-ordination of

research in the division, specifically for the PhD Emergency Medicine Programme. This is a full-time, permanent

position. Responsibilities include assisting with the administration of the PhD programme, mentoring of postgraduate students in the division, and assisting the Division to improve research outputs.

Requirements include:

  • Undergraduate clinical degree, registerable with HPCSA or SANC
  • Master’s degree in either clinical emergency care or public health or similar
  • Demonstrable research experience in the healthcare sector
  • Proven experience in carrying out core research tasks (such as literature reviews, scoping of funding

opportunities, writing and revising research protocols, writing interview guides and reports, and

coordinating research meetings)

  • Teaching experience in tertiary education sector
  • Strong computer skills (Word, Excel, e-mail and calendar programs, PowerPoint, etc.)
  • Excellent interpersonal abilities
  • Excellent written and verbal communication

Advantageous:

  • Demonstrable history of scientific publications
  • At least three years research experience
  • Demonstrable experience in post-graduate supervision
  • Demonstrable experience in emergency care
  • Qualitative research experience would be advantageous
  • Expertise in online teaching and teaching with technology
  • Intention of study towards a PhD would be encouraged

Responsibilities include:

  • Liaison with faculty to ensure smooth administration of the PhD programme and appropriate progression of

students

  • Mentoring (including research supervision and co-supervision) of post-graduate students in the Division of

Emergency Medicine

  • Assist with grant funding applications
  • Assisting the Division to improve Research outputs including conducting own research.
